i do not think many of you care much for this, but yesterday (or late last night, more exact) the eurovision song contest was having the first semifinal. since i am from europe i decided to watch it on the livestream even if the time was not very convenient. i have not missed it in years, and i am not going to start missing it because i am now in japan.

my favorite entry was israel last night, as well as the lady in the really shiny pantsuit. i forgot the song and the country, but the suit was so shiny i could not look away. both made it through, so i am content for the night. germany does not show until the finals because rules are stupid.

the semi finals are probably too much for people to wake up for since it is not so relevant to japanese, but the songs that go to the finals should be the best anyway and the final is on Saturday so people might be able to stay up. would anyone want to do a viewing party or something with me?

Neither - since I am not European I have no favourite. I am however curious to see what the different countries choose as performance to represent themselves.

there is not really one genre for eurovision, there is all sorts. there are always some countries who send the ballads or the pop music numbers, but there are always a few that are more the unexpected spectacle. some of the memorable ones are lordi singing hard rock hallelujah, its my life by cezar and the party for everybody by buranovskiye babushki.

it looks like it will happen at the mikiya common room so we have space for people. i am sure it will be fun!

awww yesss im excited!! we can make popcorn and stuff!! what time is it on? would it be better to sleep before and wake up, or stay up and sleep after...?

it starts while it is about 4 in the morning here, so sleeping a bit first is probably better. that is what i have been doing during the semi finals, at least.

that works out, though getting to mikiya that late might be kinda weird. dead of night taxis are suuuper creepy. wonder if we could all crash in the common room.

I think I've heard of it and may have seen a clip of it . I don't know what language they some but lots of shiny metallic outfits.

there are always a few very shiny ones and i already know there is one very metallic shiny one in the finals this year so i am sure it will not disappoint!

not exactly of course, the different entries in the lineup are always standing out by a lot and nobody is exactly like verka serduchka, but there are always one or a few entries that are unexpected like that.

going by the semi finals there are definitely going to be fun performances this year too!

it is the european solution to try and solve conflicts by coming together for something fun, so even though it has many different countries it is supposed to be not political at all. there always is some political chatter if something big has happened that ends up impacting votes, but on the whole it is more about everyone having a good time. you should come watch too.

my place is decently sized but i am not sure if it could be comfortable for everyone. would the common room be actually allowed, because that might be more easy to go to for everyone.

Yeah, the landlords won’t have a problem with it. I doubt things will get crazy.

then that seems like the good option, especially since a lot of the people who are interested are from there anyway. it will be fun!

I haven't seen any performances but it sounds fascinating. If you'd like, and if there are others who wish to join, as Zaizen-kun said, Mikiya's common room is rather large and has a television.

it seems like that is the best option, yes. it will be fun to watch it with so many people, since i have only ever watched with my family.
